I got Harvey Electrical in when the person who was originally supposed to carry out the work decided they could earn more by taking on other jobs.

The work was an upgrade to my existing solar system, with some of the work being carried out by me. There were a couple of reasons for this. The system uses Victron equipment, and the installation also required some very specific elements that needed to integrate with my own AI-controlled system. I would also be removing the existing equipment before Harvey Electrical arrived to carry out their part of the installation.

The work was split into several stages. My existing 10-panel system on the roof needed changing from 10 panels in parallel to 2 strings of 5 panels, with two sets of DC cables brought down from the roof to my outbuilding. A new set of wiring was also required from the main house, along with the necessary fuses and connections, ready for me to install my Victron equipment.

Harvey Electrical also fitted a new light in the outbuilding and, at my request, removed the old wiring associated with the previous equipment and properly deactivated it. This was important to me because I wanted the redundant wiring and equipment made safe rather than simply being left in place.

This was all agreed on the basis that Harvey Electrical had not previously worked with Victron equipment and that the Victron side of the installation would be completed by me. Their responsibility was to carry out their part of the installation to MCS standards and within the relevant electrical and regulatory requirements.

The electricians were friendly, competent, understanding and easy to work with. They were also happy to accommodate the fact that this was not a standard installation and that I was carrying out part of the work myself.

One thing that particularly stood out to me happened on the first day. The young lad who came out to do the basic work ended up helping me lift an 80+ kg Victron MultiPlus-II 15,000VA onto the wall. That is not an easy bit of kit to move, let alone get mounted safely, and he absolutely did not have to help me with it. He could quite easily have left me to deal with it myself, but he stepped in and helped me off his own back. That sort of attitude says a lot about someone.

There were a couple of things that weren't completed due to misunderstandings about what had been agreed. However, these were not faults on Harvey Electrical's part, and I was able to resolve and complete those items myself.

Overall, I was very pleased with Harvey Electrical. They were professional, friendly, competent and, importantly, they understood that this was a slightly unusual installation and worked with me rather than making the job more difficult.

I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Harvey Electrical. They did what they agreed to do, worked to the required standards, made the redundant electrical work safe as requested, and were helpful throughout. They also went beyond what I expected in places.

Finding a company that is both competent and genuinely helpful is becoming increasingly difficult, so when you find one, it is worth saying so. Harvey Electrical have earned my recommendation.

David was absolutely excellent - fixed our socket behind the oven but not only replaced it but also moved it to ensure the oven would fit snugly in its space, then corrected a spur that was left hanging out of the wall by the appliance installer and also fixed an unbalanced neutral wire that was poorly installed by the people who did the rewiring badly on the house we bought 3 months ago.
